Because of the big housing problem in the US many people move into cheap, run down hotels, the so-called Flophouse hotels. The director, Monica Strømdahl has been travelling around the US documenting the housing situation and people’s life in different flophouses. Four years ago she met Mikal, one of many children growing up in a hotel. Now Mikal wants to be part of this documentary film, hoping to help others by sharing his story.

"Flophouse America" ​​had its world premiere to a sold-out audience at CPH:DOX in March 2025, where it received Honorable Mention at the DoxAwards. The film has been screened and won awards at festivals world wide, and has screenings to come at many great festivals. We are looking forward to it!
